some green while ‘going
green’

CLINTON — The Unitarian
Universalist Church is taking a new twist on “going green." Each year
the church has hosted a rummage sale and donated the revenue
to charity, beginning with Hurricane Katrina relief.
This
year, however, the group wants to open up the rummage sale so that
anyone can sell their wares. Those who take part will be charged $10 a
table, and it is up to them whether they wish to keep the money they
make or donate it to the charity that has yet to be determined.
Steven
Parker, a member of the church and an organizer, said the church event
has grown to where there are several rooms at the church already full
in preparation for this year’s sale, which will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on
April 17 and from 9 a.m. until those involved pack up shop on April 18.
Parker said this was the year chosen to expand
the sale because
of last year’s demise of Art in the Park. He said the church really
would like to see it grow to the point where it becomes a flea market,
such as the one near Thomson, Ill., that would be set up on a
consistent basis. He said it also underscores the church’s desire to go
green — since
recycling goods is going green at its best. He is encouraging anyone
who wants to get involved to call him at
243-6087.
“If you have something to sell, and it’s not illegal, bring it to
sell," he said.
Children of the church also will be selling treats the day of the sale.
The church is located at 309 30th
Ave. North, Clinton. See
the map on the Home page.
