Even if we are fortunate enough to have A/C in our houses, apartments, outside lodging, or shared rooms, IT IS STILL TOO HOT, and can be dangerous!
Here are some suggestions for coping with excessive HEAT:
BLOCK OUT THE SUN
CONSIDER HEAT REFLECTIVE WINDOW FILM (that really does work!)
CLOSE CURTAINS AND BLINDS
IMPROVE VENTILATION AND AIR FLOW
OPEN WINDOWS AT NIGHT
CROSS-VENTILATE (open windows on opposite sides of rooms)
USE FREE-STANDNG FANS
PLACE FANS STRATEGICALLY near open windows to draw in cool air or in a corner to circulate the air.
COOL THE AIR IN FRONT OF FAN (by placing dish of cool water in front of
the fan.
USE CEILING FANS to circulate larger areas of air (flip tiny switch on fan housing to run in counterclockwise direction to push air downward; reverse in winter).
MINIMIZE HEAT SOURCES
TURN OFF HEAT-GENERATING APPLIANCES
Avoid using ovens, stoves, and other heat-producing appliances during the hottest parts of the day.
USE EXHAUST FANS
Turn on exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom to remove hot, moist air.
CHANGE LIGHT BULBS
Replace incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs, which produce significantly less heat.
TAKE COOL SHOWERS
This can help lower your body temperature, making you feel more comfortable.
DRINK COOL BEVERAGES
Staying hydrated with cool drinks can also help regulate your body temp.
CONSIDER HAVING INDOOR PLANTS
Strategically placing plants indoors can help create a cooler environment.
