Indigenous People's Day

UU Member Linda Boardsen will present a service to honor Indigenous People's day, formerly known as Columbus Day this Sunday, October 11.
Linda will discuss the concept of Two Spirits, a term coined in 1990 to discuss individuals of indigenous backgrounds who occupy non-binary genders beyond "man" and "woman". October is the traditional month designated by some indigenous tribes to celebrate Two Spirits.
In addition, Linda will summarize Julie Francella's article, "We Do Not Learn With Our Heads Alone".
Julie is of the Ojibway tribe of Canada and works as college professor and has experience treating traumatized Indigenous youth. Linda was fortunate to meet Julie last November on "The Nation Cruise" and also back in June at the Native American food conference in Chicago.
