One Woman's Decades-Long Fight To Make Juneteenth A U.S. Holiday

ree

Opal Lee is 94, and she's doing a holy dance. It's a dance she said she and her ancestors have been waiting 155 years, 11 months and 28 days to do. At age 89, after years of helping local people celebrate Juneteenth, she began an annual pilgrimage, walking from her home in Ft. Worth, TX to Washington D.C. This year she stood by as President Biden signed the law making Juneteenth our newest Federal Holiday.

GOOD JOB, MISS OPAL LEE!
